Yamaha YZF‑R9 – The New Middleweight Supersport

The Yamaha YZF‑R9 is a powerful and modern sport motorcycle from Yamaha, sitting between the R7 and R1. It combines strong performance, lightweight handling, and advanced electronics, making it a fantastic choice for riders who want a track-capable bike that’s easy to ride on the street.

Strong Engine and Performance

The R9 is powered by an 890 cc CP3 inline three-cylinder engine, liquid-cooled and DOHC, delivering around 117 horsepower and 93 Nm of torque—strong low-end and mid-range pull, perfect for sport riding and track days . It uses a 6-speed gearbox with a clutchless up-and-down quickshifter .

Lightweight Precision Frame

The YZF‑R9 features Yamaha’s lightest aluminum Deltabox frame for a supersport bike, weighing only 9.7 kg itself. This helps keep the bike’s wet weight at just 195 kg—making it agile and easy to manoeuvre .

Suspension and Brakes

It rides on a 43 mm KYB inverted fork and a KYB rear monoshock, both fully adjustable for preload, rebound, and compression .

At the front, it has dual 320 mm Brembo Stylema calipers, and a 220 mm disc at the rear, with cornering ABS .

Advanced Electronics

The bike is loaded with tech:

5-inch TFT color display with smartphone connectivity

Six-axis IMU enabling 9-level traction control, 3-level slide control, 3-level wheelie/lift control, and brake control

Ride modes (Sport, Street, Rain, 2 Custom, 4 Track), launch control, engine braking control, and cruise/speed limiter .

Aerodynamics and Design

Styled with Yamaha’s R-series DNA, the R9 has a single projector headlight, LED DRLs, and MotoGP-inspired winglets that add downforce without reducing straight-line speed .

Colours and Availability

It comes in Team Yamaha Blue, Matte Raven Black, and Intensity White/Redline . In the U.S. and Europe, it began reaching dealerships in March 2025, with MSRP of $12,499 (plus destination charge) .
